David Canales
Swim Program Head Coach & Senior Head Coach
David is excited to return for the 2025 season! This will be his 4th season as Senior Head Coach and 10th year coaching competitive swimming. David is a Certified Age Group Coach (NCCP 201) and is completing his Master of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. He is specializing in performance and coaching science, and is a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at the varsity gym. Additionally, he has coaching experience in soccer, track, and personal training. Through his coaching, David hopes to inspire and support athletes in the pursuit of their most ambitious objectives, so they may find success within their sport and beyond. He looks forward to building on the successes of last summer and another memorable summer!
Daniel Kim
Daniel is excited to be back for his second season as the intermediate head coach. With 9 years of coaching and 14 years of competing experience, he is dedicated to helping athletes reach their goals and become the best version of themselves in the pool. His coaching philosophy emphasizes creating a team-oriented environment where swimmers want to show up and work hard in order to improve their skill set. Additionally, he believes in teaching swimmers the objective behind every drill, set and practice in order to create athletes who train with a purpose. Daniel is looking forward to seeing everyone on the pool deck soon!
Kalen Murray
Kalen is so excited to be joining the Sharks this summer as Junior Head Coach. He has been in the BCSSA community, coaching and swimming, for 15 years. He loves coaching and developing young swimmers, as the sport has had such a positive impact on his own life. He brings a strong enthusiasm to the sport and aims to make the sport as fun as possible to keep swimmers motivated. Kalen believes in bringing a competitive spirit, a positive attitude, and an open mind to the pool. He is looking forward to meeting everyone and having a fantastic summer!
Chloe is thrilled to be returning for another amazing summer with the Coquitlam Sharks! She has been an active member of the Sharks community for over 13 years as a swimmer and coach for 7. Throughout her years as a swim coach, she has had the opportunity to work with all age groups for at least a season and feels privileged to be returning this year as the development head coach. She is looking forward to sharing her passion and knowledge of the sport. Her goal for the season is to provide a fun and supportive environment to help her athletes achieve their goals. Chloe is looking forward to getting to meet everyone for a fantastic summer!
Jacob Canales
Jacob is delighted to be returning to the Sharks for another great season! He has been competing in BCSSA for 12 years and this will be his 6th year coaching competitive swimming. Jacob is currently a student at the University of British Columbia, working towards obtaining a Bachelor of Kinesiology. He strives to develop swimmers into the best version of themselves by providing sport knowledge and giving his best efforts to maintain a positive environment, where everyone feels welcome and part of a team. He hopes to share his love for the sport and is looking forward to a fun summer!
Kianna is thrilled to join the Coquitlam Sharks this summer as the Artistic Swimming Head Coach! She has been involved in the sport for 10 years, 7 years as an athlete and 3 years as a coach. She believes in creating a fun and supportive environment where athletes can develop their technical abilities and learn skills that transfer both in and out of the water. Kianna loves helping athletes set and achieve their goals, whether it’s perfecting a new routine or building confidence in the water. She is excited to share her love for artistic swimming and looks forward to a rewarding and memorable summer!
Coach Taylor is excited to begin her 4th season as head coach of the water polo program. She looks forward to returning to BCSSA every summer to have some fun with the returning and new athletes while helping them achieve their water polo goals! Taylor is extremely involved in water polo throughout the year as a coach in both the community and high performance level as well as working as a general manager. She is thrilled to bring the knowledge and additional experience she has had over the last year to continue to create a fun, successful and memorable season for all athletes. Outside of water polo, Taylor has recently graduated with her Bachelor of Criminology and Political Science with the goal of becoming a high school teacher in the future!
