Diving is a unique sport that involves the development of athletic skills including strength, stamina, balance and coordination. At the same time diving promotes artistic self-expression as the diver’s body moves through the air. Diving is, therefore, considered by many to be both a sport and a form of art, and such, provides excellent opportunities for individuals to develop a broad range of athletic, artistic, and personal life skills such as goal-setting, concentration and emotional control.
Joining the diving team with the Coquitlam Sharks, children build friendships, cheer each other on, and have a lot of fun in a team environment.
Divers: Beginners & Experienced
Children eight and up are welcome, if they are of sufficient maturity to take instruction, comfortable with the deep end of the pool and able to participate in a group lesson. Beginner and advanced divers train to perform dives from all the dive groups, including forward, backward, reverse, inward and twisting dives.
During the summer season we have on average approximately 30 divers participating in our program. The coaches will divide the groups depending on their level of experience.
BCSSA Registration Form
All divers are required to complete the BC Diving Form, and pay the $35.00 registration fee, if you have not already done so in 2010. BCSSA Diving is the amateur sport governing body for the sport of springboard and platform diving in British Columbia and Coquitlam Sharks is a member club.
Summer Diving Practices/Meets
During the summer season, divers will be practicing three to four times a week. There are several competitions throughout the summer months, where divers have an opportunity to compete in one-meter and three-meter springboard events. Divers are encouraged to participate in any or all of the competitions.
Typically there are six (6) dive meets per summer, including the Sharks’ two invitational meets, the Regional meet and the Provincial meet held usually in mid-August.
Meets Age Groups
